As an executive coach, business owner, and mum, I know just how challenging the pace of life can be. Finding time for meaningful reflection, and the space to explore how I’m showing up, can feel like an effort in itself. And sometimes I just crave a break from the constant onslaught of demands, information and future asks. When I’m feeling like that, my garden is always where I want to be.
There is a growing body of evidence that gardening supports better mental health. As well as moderating stress, and reducing anxiety and depression (Shanmaganathan-Felton et al May 2020) gardening encourages us to be truly present and mindful, offering a sense of purpose away from our daily commitments and a connection to the world around us.
Realising that I do my best thinking in the garden, led me to develop gardening with coaching. Small-group coaching using gardening activities inspired by the seasons. What I know from these sessions is that taking clients out of their usual environment, and introducing nature connection enables more clarity, insight and a greater quality of thought.
Testimonials
Tamsin held a space for calm, thinking and talking. It was space and time to let go, of what I thought my ‘goal’ was / is and get clearer on what I need.
Tamsin provided a supportive and safe space to talk, listen and really dive into the curious and creative part of my brain. I enjoyed her practice and approach, the session was teamed with some simple gardening tasks which not only felt really therapeutic it took the pressure off of ‘the subject’ and really made room for creative thinking – it was a few hours of pure joy and I left feeling inspired, confident and ready to step forward. I would recommend Natural Steps Coaching to everyone
No phones, just the sound of a bell, bird song, the wind through the leaves and the children’s playground joy drifting over the wind.
Spending time in the act of gardening freed up the mind to consider my question I had brought in a different way, whilst being gently guided with a thoughtful approach. I’d love to join another session.
What’s different about this programme?
• You will be encouraged to get really curious about yourself and use all of your senses.
• There won’t be any ‘teaching’ but you will learn more about yourself, in a safe, empathetic environment.
• You’ll get your hands dirty and you might even leave with a plant!
I’m now planning this year’s programme, which will involve four sessions across the year. Each session is around 2 hours, and takes place in a new venue in Corsham. With a maximum of six participants on each session (you don’t need to attend all four, but are welcome to if there’s space), I’m looking for people who’d like to join me in 2026.
You need to:
• Be ready to try something new, and open to new ways of thinking
• Be happy getting your hands dirty
I don’t charge for these sessions, but I do ask that participants provide feedback, and this year, I’ll be asking people to ‘pay it forward’ by making a small contribution to a chosen charity.
If you’re ready to think differently, get in touch for a chat about your coaching goals and how to put your name on the waiting list.
